The Burston Strike School Rally attracts a diverse mixture of political and campaigning stalls, education and learning, human rights and green groups. Every major trade union and progressive political party is represented. The local primary school parent teacher association provides a wide range of food and drink options, with all the money raised going to benefit the local school children. A beer tent, run by the local pub, the Crown Inn, provides an array of liquid refreshment not otherwise provided by the school parents.
The Strike Rally offers trade unions and other groups a great platform to promote their activities on one of the major days of the labour movement calendar.
There is a modest charge for having a stall on the Green, and all of that goes towards the maintenance of the Strike School.
Although most union and campaign stalls have been in attendance for years, the Burston Strike School Rally organising committee welcomes applications from new groups. A greater diversity only adds to the enjoyment of the day and we are also pleased to provide an opportunity for a progressive cause to be promoted.
Please note though, due to the nature of the event, and its current size, we feel that the food and drink provisions are currently more than catered for.
Priority will be given to organisations that fall with the legacy of the Burston Rebellion and the Higdons’ beliefs. The Burston Strike School Trustees reserves the right to refuse applications.
The final decision is that of Burston Strike School Trustees.
